Strategic Planning Advice

SLCAny student of the UK’s evolving planning context will be well aware that complex environmental issues have become increasingly determinative both at first instance and at Appeal.

Frequently working closely with the UK’s leading planning ecologist, Alistair Baxter of Aspect Ecology, our Principal provides strategic planning advice to help navigate these difficult waters.

Combining high-level knowledge of the planning and legal framework with unrivalled technical expertise, we can identify the optimum approach to the planning process.

In one ongoing case, our Principal was instructed by one of the UK’s leading volume housebuilders as part of its due diligence process prior to taking an option on an 80ha conifer-replanted ancient woodland site under private ownership.JFL identified development potential on 12ha of the site, adjacent to an existing settlement, and proposed a strategy that delivered restoration to broadleaf cover for the remaining 68ha over 40-50 years, and public access. The application is now proceeding through the planning system with support from Natural England. The LPA is not enthusiastic; but we can deal with that.
